There was a sizeable new arrival at Tarvin Precision this week as the latest addition to our machining capacity made the journey from Bilbao in Spain to our facility in North Wales.
Our new CMZ TA Series CNC machine was transported directly by CMZ, leaving Bilbao on Friday and arriving at Tarvin at 10:30am on Monday morning – exactly as planned.
Getting a machine of this size from the back of a vehicle into its precise position on a busy machine shop floor takes considerably more than simply unloading it. In many ways, the whole operation reflected one of the principles behind everything we do at Tarvin: precision at every step.
From Bilbao to the Tarvin Precision shop floor
Once the machine arrived, specialist machinery movers Paul Watler Machinery Movements had travelled up from Hertfordshire to handle the offload and positioning.
The operation was impressively efficient. The machine was carefully lifted from the transport before being moved into the factory and positioned using specialist remote-controlled skates.
With limited space around existing equipment, getting a machine of this size exactly where it needed to go required careful planning, coordination and control.
It was a process where millimetres mattered, and the team made it look remarkably straightforward.
Precision at every step
From the transport arriving on schedule to the controlled offload and final positioning, the installation was a great example of specialist teams working together.
Using remotely controlled machinery skates, the team was able to manoeuvre the CMZ through the factory and position it precisely in its new home on the shop floor.
At almost exactly the same time, CMZ commissioning engineer Phil arrived on site, allowing commissioning to begin as soon as the electrical connection had been completed.
That meant there was very little lost time between delivery, positioning, connection and installation.
And once the heavy lifting was complete, there was time for the most important part of any successful machine installation: brews all round.
Installed and ready for the next stage
The commissioning work has now been completed and the machine is looking very much at home alongside the rest of our CNC equipment.
The CMZ engineer will return next week to complete operator training before the machine moves into production.
